Dragos and Michelle are waiting to welcome a child into their heart and home through open adoption. Learn more about them!

Dear Birth Family,

We are so grateful you are taking the time to get to know us a little better. Thank you!

We hope to have the chance to get to know you better as well.

Adoption is a beautiful choice and we thank you for considering us to be a part of your journey.

We want you to know that it is important to us to have an open relationship with you and your family. We all want what is best for our children and having more people to love them is a wonderful thing. We have a close family member who is adopted and for her, not knowing her birth mother was painful. We don’t want children and birth mothers to experience that kind of pain if we can avoid it.

We hope that you feel loved and supported throughout this whole process. We wish you strength and courage.

You are bringing a lot of love into the world and we thank you!

Our Story

We met in Italian class in college, and still feel the same about each other today as we did back then.

We have been together for over 17 years, married for 11 years this year and we’ve always wanted to have kids!

We love spending time with each other, our families and friends and cannot wait until we grow our family even more!

Michelle’s Thoughts on Dragos

Dragos is a wonderful person and will be an incredible dad. Everything about him is basically perfect for fatherhood.

He loves games and fun and is so enthusiastic about everything. We went to a Lego exhibit and he probably had more fun than the 6 year-old with us!

He is well-rounded with a lot of interests, so no matter what activities our kids do, he will be a part of them.

He’s very patient and is a great teacher. If he can teach people how to use their smartphones, he can teach anyone anything!

One of the things that I loved about him right away is that he can talk to anyone. He is genuinely interested in people and their stories.

He will be an incredibly joyful father!

Dragos’ Thoughts on Michelle

Michelle is going to be a great mom. She is so funny and intelligent and the friendliest, caring, warmest, most loving person I know.

It’s obvious she genuinely cares about others, from her education and career to her friendships and family.

She will be a caring, ever-attentive, amazing, and loving mother. Michelle loves kids so much and growing our family is something she has looked forward to for a long time.

We talked about kids early in our relationship and her face always lit up.

She is also our niece’s godmother and takes this responsibility very seriously. She knows it’s a privilege and she effortlessly makes every moment with her a fun and instructive one.

She has so sooooooo much more love to give!

Our Family

We are really close with our families and spend a lot of time together. We are so lucky that everyone gets along and lives close by, so we socialize a lot together. That also means that we’ll have plenty of help when the baby arrives!

Dragos and his brother are more than brothers – they are also best friends. They love to go to the movies together, grill, play pool, and hang out.

We’re lucky to be able to celebrate with both sides of our families. Last Christmas, we hosted 16 people for a huge Italian and Romanian feast!

Michelle’s parents joined us for the Race Against Hate 5k Run.

Michelle and her brother are really close. They love to tease each other and laugh any chance they get. Their cook-offs are legendary and we all win when they “compete”.

Dragos’ family is really fun loving. We’ve started hosting a game night at our house and it’s been such a good time!

Our Hobbies

We both love to travel!

We’re in front of the Trevi fountain in Rome, one of our favorite cities.

We spent a very fun and cold few days in Montreal for New Year’s Eve.

We took a trip to Mexico and Cuba for Michelle’s old job. It was a lot of work, but we found time to go dancing.

I’ve always pictured snuggling up with my kids reading them stories.

Italian classes

Both being a student and teacher!

I love having a creative outlet.

Cooking and entertaining for friends and family

I would love to do all of these things with our children!

Photography (especially travel photos!)

I like to watch games and also play whenever I can.

I speak Romanian, French, and Italian.

Other things Dragos likes: architecture, bananas, playing records, watching the Arsenal soccer team, dad jokes and puns, action movies and cars.

Two of our favorite things: traveling and hanging out with friends.

Our Friends

It’s become a new tradition for us to host all of our friends over for the World Cup. Half of the group likes to watch the game and the other half just likes to hang out!

We went to a fundraising dinner for Michelle’s work with some friends that we made while volunteering. We care a lot about social issues and about making life better for people in need. It’s important for us to share these values with our friends and it’s even more important to us that we pass these values onto our children.

We love to do fun activities with our friends, especially hiking in the mountains.

Last year, we went to Colorado for Thanksgiving to visit friends and family. We lived there for 6 years and made some lifelong friends. We love to visit them whenever we can to catch up.

We celebrated Dragos’ 35th birthday with a fun trip to an Escape Room to solve some puzzles.

Our Home

We’ve lived in our condo on the north side of Chicago for seven years. When we first toured it, we fell in love with the big open spaces that made it easy to have people over.

Our neighborhood is super family-friendly. We are right across the street from a park and close walking distance to the library, pool, other parks, as well as a great area with restaurants, shops (including a great toy store!), and lots of fun activities.

We love to hear that our family and friends feel comfortable and relaxed whenever they visit.

Our friends are such a big part of our lives. The group below has been friends since high school and we still get together almost every month. In February, it was our turn and we hosted everyone at our house to celebrate Mardi Gras.

This is the baby’s room. It’s also our guest room for now, but the bookshelves are already stocked with children’s books.

We started a collection of copies of “Around the World in 80 Days”, a book that Dragos loved as a child and that combines our love of travel and reading. Dragos’ brother travels for work and picked us up 11 copies in different languages.
