Every year, we get excited for November because it’s National Adoption Month — a month devoted to advocating for children who are waiting for permanent, loving families, and raising awareness about the continuing need for and issues surrounding adoption! We also take this month to celebrate adoption — showing how many people are connected to adoption in some way.
This year, we need YOUR help!
The Illinois Adoption Advisory Council and Illinois Department of Children and Family Services want to celebrate National Adoption Month by showing how people are connected to adoption.
In our Holt-Sunny Ridge office, we have a paper chain of connections — showing how adoptees, adoptive parents, social workers, friends and other family members are connected to and through adoption.
We want to see YOUR connection to adoption in our office! Email your connections to us to be featured on our chain! We will write your response on a chain link, and your connection will be hanging in Holt-Sunny Ridge’s office throughout the month.
But there’s another way you can participate in National Adoption Month. We want to see and hear your stories.
Sometimes, the best stories and most powerful moments aren’t the ones captured in a glossy magazine or polished video. Often, it’s the candid moments that move people to tears — the first meeting between a child and her adoptive parents captured on a shaky iPhone video, the blurry referral photo that a family first saw of their child, the unedited Facebook post written by an adoptee about his reunion with his birth parents.
That’s why, this National Adoption Month, we’re asking you to help show the real, raw, emotional moments that capture what it means to adopt, or be adopted.
Just like the paper chain, we want to share your moments! When you send your stories, photos and videos, you could see you and your family on Holt-Sunny Ridge’s Facebook page this month!
Whether you add your connection to our paper chain or share your stories, your voice is powerful. Join us this November as we advocate for children, raise awareness and show the connections through adoption.
Email your connections to Kristina Knapp at email@example.com to be added to Holt-Sunny Ridge’s paper chain! Or, send your photos, videos and stories to Mai Anh Hall at firstname.lastname@example.org for consideration to be featured on our Facebook page!
